01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Hanging its noren inside a commercial building linked directly to Kachidoki Station, Tsukigen is an unpretentious spot offering an extensive lineup of set meals and drinks-friendly small plates. At lunchtime, local office workers stream in for reasonably priced sets; turnover is brisk, and solo diners fit right in.
An Inviting Breadth of Lunch Sets
The lunch menu balances seafood and hearty fried meats so thoroughly that choosing can take a few minutes. On lighter days, seafood options hit the mark, including tuna don topped with tender maguro, a fresh mixed sashimi set, and rich, fatty grilled salmon belly (shake harasu). Those after something substantial can turn to piping-hot menchi-katsu (minced meat cutlet) sets, crisp mixed-fry plates, or tender pork loin katsuni simmered in sweet dashi broth.
Evening Drinks and Small Plates
As evening falls, Tsukigen shifts into izakaya mode, pouring beer, highballs, and shochu alongside classics like sashimi, deep-fried horse mackerel (aji fry), and thick-cut fried beef liver. Simple, comforting plates—such as slow-simmered beef offal stew (gyu motsu nikomi) and stir-fried vegetables—make for an easygoing after-work stop.
